Description: This program will provide an overview of the many green building features of various above-grade concrete wall systems for residential construction discussed within the context of the recently developed NAHB National Green Building Standard. Innovative sustainable benefits of cast-in-place insulating concrete forms (ICFs) and removable form systems, concrete masonry and precast concrete wall systems will all be featured.

Graber, PE, Dennis

Company: National Concrete Masonry Association

Dennis Graber is the Director of Technical Publications for the National Concrete Masonry Association. His duties and responsibilities include developing technical publications on the design and construction utilizing concrete masonry products. Prior to joining NCMA, Mr. Graber was the Director of Engineering for the Florida Concrete & Products Association from 1987 to 1997. Prior to that, he was the Structural Engineer - Florida for the Portland Cement Association from 1980 to 1986 after twelve years of consulting engineering in Florida. Mr. Graber is a registered professional engineer in Florida. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from South Dakota State University. Mr. Graber is a fellow of the American Concrete Institute (ACI), a member of The Masonry Society (TMS), and a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). He also serves on the following committees: ASCE 7, Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures; ASCE Design Loads on Structures During Construction, ICC Hurricane Construction Committee, ICC Storm Shelter Committee, the Council for Wall Bracing, and the Masonry Standards Joint Committee.

Miller, P.E., LEED AP, Brian

Company: Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute

Brian Miller has more than 20 years of experience in the precast concrete and concrete materials industries. He holds degrees in civil engineering and construction technologies and is currently earning his Masters degree in Business Administration. Miller is the director of engineering and technology for the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute, where he serves as the liaison to several committees such as the Total Precast Systems, Parking Structures and Concrete Materials Committees. He also is a staff liaison to the organization's newly formed Sustainability Committee. Prior to joining PCI, Miller was director of technical services for the National Precast Concrete Association. During his tenure at NPCA, he focused on building products, as well as architectural and code-related issues and projects. Prior to his work in the trade association arena, Miller served as a project engineer with Master Builders Research and Development Division for more than a decade. His research expertise includes concrete materials and mix design, durability, corrosion and service-life prediction, and fiber -reinforcement systems. Miller was also a field manager for an architectural precast concrete producer for several years and built offices, parking structures, schools, retail, multi-family, and manufacturing structures. He has published several technical papers and is currently Chairman of the American Concrete Institute's Committee 533, Precast Panels, as well as an active member of the American Society for Testing and Materials International, the Alliance for Concrete Codes and Standards and an allied member of the American Institute of Architects.

Thompson AIA, CGP, LEED AP, Donn C.

Company: Portland Cement Association

Donn C. Thompson, AIA, LEED AP, is Residential Technology Manager for the Portland Cement Association, (PCA), the trade association representing cement manufacturers nationwide. He provides technical support for concrete homebuilding technologies for residential construction and oversees PCA research programs supporting cement applications in single family construction. Donn has been active in the ICF industry for over 8 years, having provided on-site contractor training and technical support on a variety of systems. He is a licensed architect in Illinois, a member of the American Concrete Institute, the American Institute of Architects, an Associate Affiliate Member of the National Association of Homebuilders, (NAHB). Donn is a US Green Building Council LEED Accredited Professional and served on the board of the Insulating Concrete Forms Association, the industry trade association representing the major ICF manufacturers in North America. He is recognized by the NAHB Home Builders Institute as an instructor for the full complement of courses offered within the Residential Construction Superintendent (RCS) Concrete Specialization Series.
